Already using a couple small houserules... and by small, I do mean small.
Counting success levels: we just read the 10's die, with 0 counting as 0. So, if you rolled a 35 of 36, you have hit 3 levels of success. While it doesn't mess the odds up much, it has made it far easier to count them!
Some support: Take a normal 32% chance, and see the break points:
